I have run into a couple of broken down, treadle sewing machines. My mom still has the one that belonged to my great-grandmother but it’s in pretty good shape so we won’t be touching that! Mom put her foot down.
Anyway, I was looking at the sewing drawers thinking they would make great containers, decor or repurposed items. I also see them for sale all by themselves at very reasonable prices. So, here are some of the ideas I have use and as well as new ones I will use in the future that I found on Pinterest.
I used this drawer as a container on a Halloween food table. The theme was “Vintage Halloween” so the vintage sewing drawer was perfect! I lined the drawer with a lime green, satin napkin to ensure the party mix didn’t touch it.
At Funky Junk Interiors, Donna takes an old sewing machine drawer, mason jars and an vintage washboard that’s missing glass to create this gorgeous window display. I just love it!
Katie’s Rose Cottage made this beautiful display from an old sewing machine drawer. This drawer in white chalk paint has a different look than the natural stained wood. It’s simple, shabby and very chic!
Debra Cole on Pinterest, showed off a sewing machine drawer used as a hanging shelf in a guest bath. Cute idea! I like lining the inside with paper for a nice contrast.
My mind is a whir with ideas! They could hold office supplies, holiday decor or arrangements, centerpieces for a wedding, stacked on a book case with old books in a neat vignette…
Have you got some ideas for using vintage sewing machine drawers as decor?
