I have always loved globes. It’s interesting to me to be able to see the world or hold it in my hands. I have traveled the U.S. a lot and lived on Guam but that is the extent of it thus far. I want to see Europe one day…
I had never seen a globe on an acrylic stand and I loved the raised relief of sea and land on this one, so in my cart it went. It is a Reader’s Digest Globe made by Replogle Globes in 1973. It’s titled: “The Nations of the World with Land and Sea Relief” and is 12″ diameter. It has a few spots with the high relief that have rubbed off but looks to be normal wear for a globe that is almost 40 years old in great condition otherwise.
Also included with the acrylic stand are two acrylic pieces. One shows time zones and the other shows mileage. They have the same curvature as the globe so they can be laid flat against the 3 dimensional globe. They are stored in the bottom of the acrylic stand in a pocket area.
Here are some photos:
Overall, I’d say it’s in pretty good shape. I can’t believe it’s almost 40 years old. Makes me feel old! Anyway, it will be added to our Vintage With A Twist Booth at the JW Riley Emporium today. Stop by and see it!
