Whether you are decorating your home or decorating for a wedding or other event, shopping vintage is a great way to reduce waste.
Think about it –there are so many items that were made and used in past generations that can still be used today. They may have lived out their usefulness for their original purpose but re-purposing them or decorating with them gives them a second life and saves the landfills from more trash.
Recycle – Reuse – Reduce
Recycle — Recycle an item or two. My brother-in-law uses reclaimed barn wood to create beautiful items for the home. He builds cabinets, tables, shelving and much more by utilizing wood that has already lived one life.
Reuse — Instead of visiting a furniture showroom or department store and purchasing new china, glassware or living room furniture, consider attending an auction or visiting an vintage mall or used furniture store. Reuse gently used items and give them a new life.
Reduce — By reusing items for their original purpose or a new idea, you are cutting down on waste produced. You are reducing the amount of waste that ends up in a landfill or dump that will take years to decompose.
Using some creativity and elbow grease or even just your eye for design, shopping vintage is a very eco friendly idea! Let’s all do our part!
