Written by on July 8, 2013 in DIY, Upcycle with 2 Comments

I love repurposing old items. Finding a way to make a decorative or useful new item out of old items is a lot of fun and I get to stretch my creative muscles. Lately, I have been looking at items I could recycle into light fixtures or lamps. There are so many possibilities!

Inspiration and Ideas

Pinterest is a great place to start. We are such a creative group of beings. I love to see the ideas people come up with for reusing and/or repurposing old or broken items. Here are a few of my favorites!

floor lamp planter

Pat, aka Queen of Thrift takes an old floor lamp and makes an outdoor plant stand. It’s stunning and easy to boot! See instructions here.

bed springs chandelier

Bed Springs to Chandelier? You bet! This is such a cool look for the dining room, bedroom, over a kitchen island or anywhere! See instructions here.

measuring tape light

Lowes Creative Ideas had this adorable measuring tape pendant light fixture on their website. I would love to do the same thing but with maybe vintage rulers or yard sticks. Really fun idea!

And, finally, here is my newest attempt at remaking a couple of items into something totally new! The full tutorial for my project is here, but here’s a couple of photos to peak your interest!

Don’t forget to check your favorite thrift and vintage stores for lamps and fixtures. Also, eBay for used light fixtures and lamps.

What great ideas and easy to do. Repurposing old items makes so much sense when they can come out as cool as these! Your candelabra is the best, of course!

  2. These are all such really cool ideas! The bed spring suggestion did make me laugh. Thanks for that too!
