The other day, a few of us attended a local festival. Our favorite part about the festival is all the garage and yard sales that pop up to take advantage of the infuse of traffic. We hit every one of them that we saw. A great way to spend an afternoon.
Mom found some depression glass in a pattern she remembers from her childhood. She got a great buy on it but it will probably be displayed in her dining room instead of going to the Vintage With A Twist booth.
I found a couple of old magazines — perfect for an ephemera collector. I am partial to old Hollywood or Hollywood in its heyday so these were right up my alley. One of them was titled “Hollywood Men” and published in 1953 by a New York publisher — Maco Magazine Corporation.
It’s amazing how opening a book, magazine or old newspaper takes you back in time. This particular magazine is before my time but I could easily imagine you women mooning over their favorite movie star and drinking in the details of the articles.
The cover is graced by a large image if Tony Curtis and 3 smaller images of Robert Wagner, Tab Hunter and Rock Hudson.
There are 22 color portraits and 37 articles about the hottest men in Hollywood at the time. Names like:
- Cornel Wilde
- Kirk Douglas
- Farley Granger
- Alan Ladd
- John Wayne
- Fernando Lamas
- Montgomery Clift
- Tyrone Power
